As most of you know the FAA put on hold the evaluation of Amateur Built kits for better than two years while they re-evaluated current policies. Vertical Aviation Technologies of Orlando, Florida is proud to announce they have recently received official FAA notice that the new Hummingbird 260L Standard kit and Quickbuild kit are eligible Amateur Build kits meeting the 51% rule. The standard Hummingbird kit has been eligible since 1993 and was recently re-evaluated. The Quickbuild kit was developed two years ago to assist builders through the sheet metal construction of the Hummingbird fuselage and tail cone.
“When you purchase the Quickbuild kit you receive a factory built fuselage and tail coneâ€, says Brad Clark, President of Vertical Aviation Technologies, Inc. This includes the lower cabin, upper cabin, firewall, nose, windshields, chin windows, center console, instrument panel, tail cone, tail vertical and horizontal stabilizers, all assembled and sitting on preassembled landing gear. We perform the entire fabrication, assembly, and riveting of the Sheetmetal construction process for you. Imagine building your own helicopter from a factory built fuselage. You will learn more about your helicopter in order to maintain and operate it safer than a factory built production helicopter. This is the way of the future and the most cost effective way to get into a four place helicopter.
The Hummingbird 260L is a four place Lycoming powered helicopter that was previously certified by the FAA. Twenty three years ago Vertical Aviation Technologies chose to sell the Hummingbird in kit form in lieu of certified because the helicopter kit built market lacked a reliable design.
“It is important to note that the Hummingbird was designed to be a certified helicopter, so this is a real advantage over conventional experimental kits†explains Brad Clark. The Hummingbird 260L already represents a very strong value offering the highest level of standard equipment and best performance. “The Hummingbird 260L is an aircraft for the person who has researched and knows something about helicopters,†Clark said. “Its performance, craftsmanship and safety record are unmatched.â€
