Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd. (PHHL) and the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) have signed an MoU for better synergy between PHHL & IMD for enhanced Safety of Helicopter operations in India.

This MoU was signed by R K Tyagi, Chairman and Managing Director Pawan Hans Helicopters Ltd. and Air Vice Marshal Ajit Tyagi, VSM, Director General, Indian Meteorological Department.

IMD shall provide support to the Helicopter Services of PHHL at all the Airports and will install and operationalize Automatic Weather Stations(AWS) for provision of Meteorological Data at remote locations or Helipads. In addition, IMD shall provide briefing to all the pilots of helicopters operated by PHHL. It shall also provide briefing through its online briefing system. For making it more effective, Pawan Hans will provide sites for installation and shall be responsible for acquisition of the land. Further, Pawan Hans shall also help in airlifting of the equipment and staff from the nearest IMD locations to Automatic Weather Stations.

This MoU will help in better co-ordination for flying helicopters, will enhance safety aspects and will also help IMD disseminate inputs by way of de-briefs of the actual weather conditions in the far flung areas of the country.
