Third A160T Hummingbird accident; Where now for unmanned programs?

10-Sep-2010

HeliHub.com has heard today of a third test flight accident in their unmanned A160T Hummingbird program – known in military circles as the YMQ-18.  During a 45 day test program in Belize, one example crashed at the Central Farm airstrip there on 4th September. [see details]

Only weeks ago on 28th July, another Hummingbird crashed in the vicinity of their development base at Southern California Logistics Airport near Victorville, California [see details].  The unmanned program also suffered an accident in December 2007 near Victorville.

Where now for Hummingbird?  What state is the program in with these accidents?

Not a good time for military unmanned programs after the US Navy lost control of an MQ-8 Fire Scout and it progressed out of control towards Washington, DC on 2nd August 2010 [see details]
