Château Hermitage de Combas, a 19th century estate situated between Béziers and Montpellier welcomes guests to the enchanting setting of Languedoc-Roussillon. Since May 2011, Alexandre Rech, the owner, has been able to offer the option of arriving directly at the château by helicopter—a helipad has been set up right in the heart of the estate.

The best views of the delights of the Languedoc region by helicopter

To the north-east of the château (43.26.15.05N 03.19.47.90.E) on a clear platform, the helipad is equipped with a concrete pad and a windsock. Arrival by helicopter is from the east, flying over part of the 45 hectares of the property’s vineyards.

You can discover this region’s rich heritage best by helicopter. Local sights include the Cathar castles perched on their rocky outcrops and the city of Carcassonne, medieval villages, the canal du Midi and the hundreds of 19th century wine estate châteaux. The Languedoc nature reserve’s gorges and lakes, as well as the Mediterranean coast and two golf courses are all close by.

Alexandre Rech, a customer and aviation minded host

The happy owner of the Hermitage de Combas is a man who loves challenges. In 2009, Alexandre Rech changed career to make his dream come true and carry out a successful renovation of the château. Previously an executive in a business aviation company, then marketing director of an engine manufacturer, he is also an aerobatics pilot and a vintage airplane enthusiast. Alexandre Rech learned to fly in the region at the age of 16, and his love of helicopters began during his national service at the French Army Light Aviation’s flight test centre. Today, he is delighted to be able to welcome helicopter pilots as well as specialised airline passengers and says, with a wink, “I get as much pleasure from sharing a good flight as from sharing a good wine!”

Hermitage de Combas, a prestigious location with a unique concept

The château de Combas offers 25 themed apartments, ranging from 32 to 140m², with such evocative names as “Duc de Mirepoix”, “Marquis de Gervais”, “Seigneur de Venasque”, “Maison Vieille Cave” etc. The leafy parkland includes a swimming pool and tennis court. The property also has a vineyard and a selection of excellent local wines is offered in all the suites. The park is also the setting for a production of an opera (“Mireille” by Gounod), followed by a candlelit dinner on 9 August.
