In a joint operation between Brazil’s Army and Federal Police, a recently-acquired Eurocopter EC725 – known locally as the H-36 – was used operationally for the first time. The mission involved the rescue of seven people being held hostage near the town of Jacareacanga by a group from the Indian Kayabi tribe – all linked with a protest against the construction of a hydroelectric plant.  The group is seen in the photo below

After an agreement with the negotiating committee of the General Secretariat of the Presidency, the hostages were released and transported to Altamira. From there, they went to Brasilia on an military transport aircraft.
