Today Phyre Technologies, Inc. (“Phyre”) announced that they had successfully completed the GOBIGGSTM fuel tank inerting system prototype testing and demonstration phase of the Combat Tempered Platform Demonstration (CTPD).  Phyre is contracted by Sikorsky Aircraft, a subsidiary of United Technologies Corporation, to build and demonstrate a Green On-Board Inert Gas Generating System (GOBIGGSTM) system for the UH-60 BLACK HAWK helicopter.

The prototype testing and demonstration phase, which was completed on July 17th, demonstrated the capability of the GOBIGGSTM unit to rapidly inert fuel tank ullage below flammable levels.  The testing was completed in conjunction with Sikorsky Aircraft, U.S. Army Aviation Development Directorate – Aviation Applied Technology Directorate (ADD-AATD) and Army Research Laboratory (ARL).

Phyre’s GOBIGGSTM is an environmentally friendly, catalyst based fuel tank inerting system designed to significantly reduce fuel tank vulnerability to explosion and thereby increase survivability of the UH-60.  This is accomplished while reducing the size, weight and operational costs when compared to existing inerting technologies.

“We are very proud of Phyre’s GOBIGGSTM team and this accomplishment.  This TRL 6 demonstration unit is the culmination of years of development and testing”, said Santosh Limaye, Phyre Chairman.  “As a small company, we are honored to be working closely with Sikorsky, ADD-AATD and ARL team members to design and build a system to improve the safety of the warfighter.”

Phyre Technologies, Inc. is a privately held company based in El Cajon, CA.  Phyre specializes in advanced research and development in aerospace and defense fuel systems. Phyre is developing advanced fuel tank inerting systems across a wide range of aircraft platforms, including military, commercial, rotary and fixed wing (from low gross weights to the highest gross weights). Alderman & Company® provides strategic and financial advice to Phyre Technologies in regard to the company’s development.
