HAI President Matt Zuccaro has joined the leaders of other general aviation associations in Washington, D.C., calling for the U.S. Congress to pass the new Pilot’s Bill of Rights legislation.

Legislation introduced in both the House and Senate, H.R. 1062 and S. 571, aims to make improvements to the Pilot’s Bill of Rights (Public Law 112-153) to address several issues of significant importance to general aviation, including expansion of the FAA’s third-class medical exemption for certain general aviation pilots, expediting updates to the FAA’s NOTAM program to ensure pilots receive critical safety information as part of their preflight preparation, and providing protections to volunteer pilots who fly in the public interest.

Read correspondence from the general aviation association heads to the House and to the Senate. Passage of H.R. 1062 and S. 571 will help general aviation to grow and prosper while affording important protections to pilots and aircraft operators. This is an issue that is important to all general aviation pilots.

All U.S.-based HAI members are strongly encouraged to contact their elected House and Senate members to encourage them to support H.R. 1062 and S. 571 and bring it to the floor as quickly as possible. Please ask your member of Congress and senators to consider co-sponsoring these bills.

The lead sponsors in the Senate are: Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), and Senator Boozman (R-Ark.). In the U.S. House of Representatives Rep. Sam Graves (R-Mo.), Rep. Lipinsk (D-Ill.), and Rep. Todd Rokita (R-Ind.) are spearheading the effort to pass an updated Pilot’s Bill of Rights. Your members of Congress can contact any of these House and Senate offices to lend their support as a co-sponsor. Contact information for the House and Senate may be found at www.house.gov and www.senate.gov.
