Security chiefs from 70 countries visit Russian Helicopters’ Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant

On 24-26 June, representatives of 70 countries’ security agencies and a delegation from the UN had the chance to learn more about the products that are made at Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant, a Russian Helicopters’ company (part of State Corporation Rostec). Security Council secretaries, ministers, presidential aides and prime ministers responsible for security issues, security service chiefs and other senior security sector personnel, gathered to discuss live issues in national, regional, and international security. Secretary of the Russian Federation’s Security Council Nikolai Patrushev took part in the meeting.

The delegates at Ulan-Ude Aviation Plant were shown models of Mi-8/17 helicopters, and had the chance to view one of the world’s most popular medium military transport helicopters, the Mi-171Sh, on static display.

This helicopter boasts a host of features designed to enhance safety. It is used in peacekeeping missions, anti-terror, law enforcement and surveillance operations, missions to counter narco-trafficking, search and rescue missions and on patrols. Operators report these helicopters perform well in mountainous areas, in extreme temperatures, and arctic and tropical climates. The Mi-171Sh is renowned across the globe for its impressive flight capabilities.

Multirole Mi-171Sh helicopters are equipped with new systems to enhance their operational efficiency, are fitted with complex defences to protect their main systems and crew, and are equipped with the latest avionics and instrumentation. Customers can choose from a wide range of specialized optional equipment, as well as comprehensive service and maintenance if necessary.

Meeting participants also had the opportunity to ask questions on areas of particular interest and evaluate the possibility of deploying the helicopter in domestic security operations and during international security operations on the basis of mutual respect, taking all parties’ interests into account.

The Mi-171Sh – is a military transport helicopter developed on the basis of the Mi-171 (Mi-8AMT). It is designed: to engage small armoured and un-armoured enemy targets that are stationary or mobile, based on land or water; to destroy enemy personnel; and to transport military cargo or paratroopers day or night, to transport cargo weighing up to 4,000 kg, or 12 wounded people on stretchers, and to carry out search-and-rescue operations (including CSAR).

Russian Helicopters, (part of State Corporation Rostec), is one of the global leaders in helicopter production and the only helicopter design and production powerhouse in Russia. Russian Helicopters was founded in 2007 and is headquartered in Moscow. The company comprises five helicopter production facilities, two design bureaus, a spare parts production and repair facility, as well as an aftersale service branch responsible for maintenance and repair in Russia and all over the world. Its helicopters are popular among Russian ministries and state authorities (Ministry of Defence, Ministry of Internal Affairs, Emergency Control Ministry), operators (Gazpromavia, UTair), major Russian corporations. In 2014 its IFRS revenues increased 22,8% to RUB 169,8 billion. Deliveries reached 271 helicopters.

State Corporation Rostec is a Russian corporation founded in 2007 for the purpose of promoting the development, production and export of hi-tech civilian and military industry products. It comprises 700 organisations, nine of which have now been formed as holding companies of the military-industrial complex, five of them are involved in civil industries and 22 are directly controlled. Rostec’s portfolio includes recognized brands such as Avtovaz, Kamaz, Russian Helicopters, and VSMPO-AVISMA. Rostec’s organizations are located in 60 constituent entities of the Russian Federation and supply their products to the markets of more than 70 countries. The revenue of Rostec in 2013 amounted to RUB 1.04 trillion. The tax deductions into the treasuries at all levels exceeded RUB 138 billion.
