The Winnipeg Police Force is currently relying on a borrowed RCMP infrared camera from Alberta RCMP. As reported by CRC Connection, Winnipeg’s Air1 helicopter was almost grounded for good due to financial issues, and has been grounded since mid-July.
But with the lent camera, the helicopter has now resumed full time duty. A new camera will cost them over half a million dollars, and according to Duttchen, the police board has promised funding. In order to cover the shortfall, the police board have agreed to apply for an additional appropriation.
