The lack of implementation of the 2015 Directorate General of Civil Aviation proposal of increasing the height at which helicopters are allowed to fly over Mumbai and Navi Mumbai has helicopter pilots and operators very upset. They met on Tuesday to discuss the issue. The increase from 500 to 1000 feet was scheduled in August of last year, but was never executed, reports Mumbai Mirror.
Now, safety is an issue due to the amount of high rise buildings that have been built. The new buildings cause problems such as communication blackouts and should a pilot have engine trouble or bad weather, their low altitude means they cannot manoeuvre into clear spaces, causing them to crash-land into populated areas.
