The Canadian Defence Minister, Harjit Sajjan, has announced that upgrades for their Bell “Griffon” B412 and Leonardo “Cormorant”AW101 should be a priority in the defence budget. He feels that if upgrades cannot be guaranteed, that the helicopters should be removed from service. This announcement was made at a conference on defence policy reviews. Debate has been had over the upgrades, as costs have been speculated to be $1.5 billion for the B412 and between $500 million and $1.5 billion for the AW101, reports Helicopters Magazine.
