All Air Evac bases in Alabama are now certified to have two units of blood and two units of plasma on board EMS flights and can set up an IV of blood in flight. Having started administering blood in flight will give the patient a better chance of survival. They are allowed to give blood if a trauma patient is haemorrhaging, high heart rates, bleeding out or is in shock, reports Times Daily.
