Klimov to complete R&D on the VK-2500PS-02 helicopter engine by end of 2022

The UEC-Klimov enterprise (part of the United Engine Corporation Rostec) will complete development work on the VK-2500PS-02 helicopter engine at the end of next year. The power plant is designed for operation on multifunctional helicopters of the Ka-32 type.

At the moment, the developer has received a document from the Federal Air Transport Agency confirming that the standard design of the VK-2500PS-02 engine meets the requirements of the certification basis.

“Obtaining approval of the main change is the first stage of development work on the VK-2500PS-02 engine. We plan to complete it at the end of next year. As a result, the new engines will significantly improve the flight characteristics of helicopters in hot and mountainous conditions, as well as ensure their reliable operation during forest skidding, extinguishing fires and other works with external sling, and, most importantly, without restrictions within the established resources, ”the director said. programs VK-2500, TV3-117 – chief designer of UEC-Klimov Evgeny Prodanov.

The new power plant is to replace the TV3-117VMA and TV3-117VMA 02 series engines on the Ka-32 helicopters. These machines are the most commonly used machines around the world when working with external sling. The engine has an electronic-digital automated control system BARK-6V-7C of its own design by the UEC-Klimov. Takeoff mode of the engine – 2200 hp, emergency – 2700 hp.

Already, the resources of the VK-2500PS-02 engine before  the 1st overhaul and the overhaul life are 2000 hours / cycles, the assigned one is 7500 hours / cycles.
