Air Evac Lifeteam (Air Evac) announced its newest emergency air medical transport base in Illinois is in service. Located in the city of Decatur, the base features a Bell 206 aircraft and is staffed around the clock with an Air Evac pilot, flight nurse and flight paramedic. The highly trained and experienced crew will be ready to respond to time-critical emergency requests when needed.

The helicopter and crew are based out of Macon County, becoming Air Evac’s 13th base in the state. Megan Kelly, program director for the new Air Evac base, said the new aircraft will be an additional resource for citizens in central Illinois.

“The Macon County air medical base will position us alongside our ground ambulance partners at Abbott EMS,” Kelly said. “This is a regional asset that gives us another safe option and increased capabilities to serve residents and visitors of central Illinois.”

Air Evac Lifeteam is a participating provider in the AirMedCare Network (AMCN), the nation’s largest air medical transport membership program with more than 320 air medical locations across 38 states. Members flown for a life- or limb-threatening injury or illness by an AMCN participating provider have no out-of-pocket costs for the flight. Whatever the member’s insurance – or third-party insurance – pays is considered payment in full. Annual memberships start at $99 ($79 for seniors).
