The Maranoa region is now home to a brand-new interactive attraction, giving visitors and locals not only a taste of the Queensland Outback, but a behind-the-scenes experience of what it takes to run LifeFlight – Queensland’s leading aeromedical organisation.

Guests can wander through the exhibit, interact, explore and learn about the world of aviation and medicine at the LifeFlight Visitor Experience, located at the Lee Family and Australian Country Choice LifeFlight Centre Roma base.

They can also hear first-hand stories from the people LifeFlight have helped in the Maranoa region.

And with a window into the hangar, who knows, you might even see the LifeFlight Surat Gas Aeromedical Services (SGAS) helicopter take off on a mission!

If you ask any of LifeFlight’s dedicated air and medical crew, they’re sure to tell you that working for LifeFlight is a unique and rewarding experience.

It’s no secret that accessing medical care in rural regions can be a challenge, especially when the nearest hospital is sometimes many hours away.

LifeFlight South West Regional Advisory Committee Chair Kate Scott, said the attraction tells the story of the Maranoa region community and highlights their resilience, and the role SGAS play in providing vital healthcare.

“The new attraction is not just an experience, but also a celebration of our wonderful region and it takes a deep dive into LifeFlight’s history and its connection to our community,” she said.

Through a massive show of support, the Maranoa community has raised almost $200,000 that has contributed to the build.

“The attraction also provides learning opportunities for school groups and the public, like our First Minutes Matter Trauma Training program, and visitors can see how actual equipment is used by aeromedical professionals during rescue missions,” said Ms Scott.

“We’re very grateful to the SGAS partners; Arrow Energy, Origin Energy and Australia Pacific LNG, Shell QGC and Santos; for the ongoing donation of 150 community flying hours each year, to help our locals when they need it the most.

“We welcome all to the LifeFlight Visitor Experience, and we can’t wait for you to see it.”

Phase 2 has been announced for the LifeFlight Visitor Experience, with planning already underway for additional interactive and immersive exhibits.
