The construction of the Launceston General Hospital’s new state-of-the-art $16 million helipad is officially complete and just days away from taking its first flight.

The completion of the helipad was great news for the community, and would support our healthcare workforce to deliver better, safer and faster care for patients.

It will ensure patients in need of critical and life-saving medical intervention can be transported safely and efficiently to and from the LGH.

Every second counts in a medical emergency, so being able to fly directly to and from our major Northern hospital will further support our fantastic health workforce and our aeromedical contractor, Rotor Lift in delivering better care for patients.

Located on the roof of the Cleveland Street multi-storey car park, the helipad is directly linked to the main hospital building through an aerobridge, enabling the rapid transit of patients to and from the relevant clinical areas.

Vos Construction undertook the building work and Haywards Steel Fabrication played a pivotal role in assembling the nine sections which make up the helideck, while several other local contractors also contributed to this complex project.
