The HELP Appeal is proud to announce the opening of a new, state-of-the-art helipad at Glenfield Hospital. This exciting development has been made possible through a generous donation of over £288,000 from the HELP Appeal, the only charity in the UK dedicated to funding NHS hospital helipads which relies entirely on public support. Glenfield Hospital helipad is the HELP Appeal’s first NHS hospital helipad to be funded in 2025 and its 55th in the country since it was established.
This upgraded helipad, which is likely to see around 40 landings per year, is a vital part of Glenfield Hospital’s commitment to providing top-tier emergency healthcare to the most critically ill patients in Leicester and beyond. Designed with a larger landing area to accommodate today’s bigger helicopters and advanced lighting systems for safe nighttime landings, the new helipad will facilitate quicker and smoother emergency transfers to specialist departments, improving patient outcomes.
Robert Bertram, Chief Executive of the HELP Appeal, commented:
“Our supporters have been instrumental in making this project a reality. Their donations have ensured this helipad is meeting today’s standards, continuing to improve patient outcomes by enabling quick and safe transfers to and from the hospital in critical situations when time is of the essence.”
Grace Broughton, UHL Capital Project Manager, added:
“When the HELP Appeal approached us about making vital upgrades in order to bring the existing facilities in line with the latest regulations and standards, we were delighted and so grateful for their commitment to fund the whole project. It’s meant that we are able to ensure the highest level of care and safety for both patients and staff.”
Sunita Patel, Head of Charity at Leicester Hospitals Charity, said:
“We are incredibly grateful to the HELP Appeal and everyone involved in making this fantastic new helipad a reality. It’s thanks to the generous support of partner charities such as the HELP Appeal, that we’re able to make great things happen for Leicester’s Hospitals. Together we are bringing vital improvements to healthcare facilities and ensuring the best possible care for patients in Leicester, Leicestershire, Rutland and the East Midlands.”
