The Public Foundation for Urxencias Sanitarias de Galicia-061 is working on a new tender to be able to award the provision of emergency medical air transport services as soon as possible.

The Public Foundation Urxencias Sanitarias de Galicia-061 agreed to terminate the contract for urgent air healthcare transportation services, with the current concessionaire company Eliance. This is a termination of the contract with an order of continuity for the new award, that is, Eliance will continue to provide, in an uninterrupted manner, this essential service for citizens until the next tender for urgent air health transportation services in Galicia is resolved and enters into force.

From this success, Urxencias Sanitarias de Galicia-061 guarantees the provision of urgent air medical transportation service in the Galician Community, 365 days of the year during the period between dawn and dusk.

Control and monitoring of the contract

The Fundación Pública Urxencias Sanitarias de Galicia-061 carries out continuous monitoring of the correct execution of two contracts to guarantee or fulfill two documents that require this service. Since this success, a total of 77 files were initiated to resolve possible incidents in the provision of this service, an inspection task that has resolved 16 of these procedures and which led to the imposition of penalties on the contractor company in the amount of 145,008 euros.

Last summer, the medical helicopter 061 based in Santiago reported a technical failure, which was immediately declared inoperative with the objective of ensuring the safety of two patients, two professionals and the crew during urgent medical transfers.

During the time necessary for repair, urgent care and emergency coverage, there will be an advanced life support ambulance (ALS) from Nursing, medicalized by the health team of 061 on the line corresponding to the helicopter.

In addition, the medical helicopter 061 based in Ourense remains operational, from dawn to dusk, and is available to travel to the area of the Galician Community if it is considered necessary.

Urxencias Sanitarias de Galicia-061 increases, since April 1, the urgent healthcare transportation network with the incorporation of an advanced life support nursing ambulance based in Moaña and a basic life support ambulance in Vigo.

In addition to these two medicalized helicopters, coverage for urgent care and health emergencies is guaranteed with 12 medicalized advanced life support ambulances (ALS), 6 Nursing ALS ambulances, 108 basic life support ambulances and 3 conventional ambulances that cover the entire Autonomous Community, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
