Abu Dhabi Police review best training practices in US police patrols

The Security Patrols Benchmarking Team of the Abu Dhabi Police Patrols Development Committee visited the United States to review best training practices related to police patrol duties in New York, Virginia, Michigan, Nevada, Arizona, California, and Santiago.

Colonel Pilot Sheikh Zayed bin Hamad Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Security Patrols Development Committee at the Abu Dhabi Police, praised the results of the visit and its importance in exchanging expertise and learning about developments in police and security work in the United States, which will positively impact the development of applications and practices adopted by the Abu Dhabi Police General Command. During the visits, coordination and cooperation in the areas of police and security work were discussed, as well as the exchange of scientific and specialized knowledge, conducting a benchmarking of best practices and development services. The visits also reviewed the pioneering role of training academies in the United States and their efforts to implement the latest contemporary technologies in the fields of modern police and security training, in accordance with international best practices.

The visit to New York included the Training and Pursuit Applications Academy, US Police Aviation (helicopters, drones), the Interior Ministry, the Highway Center, the Command and Control Center, and the Police Cavalry Center. During the visit, a meeting was held with leaders from the New York Police Department, during which coordination and cooperation in areas of mutual interest were discussed.

During its visit to Virginia, the delegation discussed ways to enhance cooperation and exchange joint expertise with training officials, as well as coordination with the Traffic Safety Organization on safe driving policy requirements. It visited the Michigan Academy and learned about the theoretical and practical training mechanism, the participation of trainers in the practical aspects, and attended an exercise with the participation of K-9 and police aviation. A coordination meeting was held with the institute director and the specialized team.

The delegation’s visit to the training academy in Nevada included a theoretical presentation on applications and practices, and the participation of trainers in practical applications. The delegation also visited police aviation and participated in the first training day during its visit to the training academy in Arizona. It also visited the police museum, participated in field experiments with trainers, and viewed advanced technologies at a smart devices exhibition.

The visit to California included learning about police efforts in implementing best practices at the training academy, reviewing shooting applications and the evaluation mechanism. The Abu Dhabi Police delegation concluded its visit to the United States by learning about best police practices at the training academy in Santiago and participating with trainers in practical tasks.

The Abu Dhabi Police delegation included Colonel Saeed Ali Al Hassani, Team Leader, and Lieutenant Colonel Mohammed Al Hammadi, Head of the Criminal Justice Institute Department; Lieutenant Colonel Khalid bin Bishr, Head of the Fleet Management Department; Captain Abdul Majeed Al Jabri, Director of the Strategy and Institutional Development Branch; and First Assistant Trainers Hadef Al Dhaheri and First Assistant Salem Al Saadi.
