The March/April 2012 issue of FAA Safety Briefing supports the great safety outreach efforts of the FAA Safety Team’s (FAASTeam) 3rd Annual Safety Standdown. While the main Standdown event is on March 31 in Lakeland, Fla., (in conjunction with the 2012 Sun ’n Fun International Fly-in and Expo), FAASTeam members around the country are hosting nearly 90 local Standdown events.

The articles in the March/April 2012 issue complement the Safety Standdown’s three central themes: Loss of Control, Aeronautical Decision-making, and Advanced Preflight. Articles on each of these critical areas provide important insight, tips and resources for improving general aviation safety.

Other articles include an overview of this year’s FAA Safety Forums at Sun ‘n Fun (pg. 4), a review of how allergy medications may impact your flying (pg. 7), and a look at “smart” autopilots for general aviation use (pg. 14).

In addition, the issue’s Nuts, Bolts, and Electrons department (pg. 27) looks at how to fine-tune your maintenance record entries, and Vertically Speaking (pg. 30) covers the importance of Single Pilot Resource Management (SPRM) for rotorcraft operations.
