Caverton Helicopters has recently retrenched 150 of its workers. The decision came without warning, with letters being delivered to the affected workers lastThursday. Most of the employees had been working for the company for over 10 years, reports Sahara Reporters.
The National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) has taken up the matter, claiming that Caverton has gone back on service condition agreements. Instead of the agreed upon procedure of severance benefits, Caverton has chosen to pay only one month’s salary instead of notice. NUATE has called for a hearing to further negotiate the situation.
