Transformative Vertical Flight

Transformative Vertical Flight

The Transformative Vertical Flight (TVF) 2024 meeting will take place Feb. 6–8, 2024 in Santa Clara, California, in the heart of Silicon Valley and will feature more than 100 speakers on important progress on vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft and technology.

TVF 2024 includes three main activities:

The 6th Decennial VFS Aeromechanics Specialists’ Conference will mark the 50th Anniversary of the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter’s first decennial forum on emerging aeromechanics challenges and solution methods for future VTOL aircraft. Aeromechanics encompasses the technical disciplines of dynamics, aero-dynamics, acoustics, and flight mechanics, all of which are strong drivers in the vehicle design process. Papers will be presented in areas related to rotorcraft/VTOL aeromechanics, including both crewed and uncrewed aircraft, using either conventional and/or electrified propulsion systems.

Confirmed plenary speakers for TVF2024 are:

  • Mr. Arnaud Le Pape, Rotorcraft Program Director, ONERA
  • Dr. Buvana Jayaraman, Branch Chief, Computational Aeromechanics, U.S. Army DEVCOM AvMC
  • Dr. Geoffrey Bower, Chief Engineer, Archer Aviation
  • Dr. Gregor Veble Mikić, Flight Research & Flight Physics Lead, Joby Aviation
  • Dr. Håvard Grip, Chief Engineer of Mars Sample Recovery Helicopters, Jet Propulsion Laboratory
  • Prof. James Wang, Professor of Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering, Nanyang Technological University Singapore
  • Prof. Marilena Pavel, Associate Professor of Aerospace Engineering, Technical University of Delft
  • Mr. Mark Scott, Consulting Engineer, Science & Technology Corporation
  • Dr. Monica Syal, Head of Aerodynamics, Maviate
  • Dr. Noah Schiller, Project Manager, Revolutionary Vertical Lift Technology, NASA
  • Dr. Yasutada Tanabe, Senior Researcher, JAXA Aeronautical Technology Directorate

The 11th Annual Electric VTOL Symposium includes invited presentations from leaders in this exciting field. This event is an excellent opportunity to learn about and discuss the latest advancements in eVTOL, and the challenges that still remain. Invited presentations from all areas of eVTOL will be discussed, from researchers and leaders in academia, industry and government agencies from around the globe. The Vertical Flight Society has been leading efforts in electric VTOL since 2014 and has a dedicated website on Electric VTOL News.

The eVTOL Symposium includes insights from excecutives at the leading eVTOL aircraft and subsystem developers, as well as key leaders from NASA, FAA, Air Force Agility Prime and other important government and industry stakeholders.

The Short Course on Electric VTOL Design will take place in-person on Monday, Feb. 5. Taught by Dr. James Wang, this annual 1-day short course is always a big hit!
